IN MEMORIAM: Dr. John A. Morrison
We are sad to announce that one of the original and long-term investigators, John A. Morrison, PhD, died on October 6, 2024, at age 85. He conducted many of the Princeton study visits in the 1970s and published some of the first findings from the study in 1977. His work spanned several decades, designing the follow-up study in the early 2000s and actively collaborating and publishing until his retirement in 2016. He was always enthusiastic about this study--the participants and the science-- and in many ways, it was his life’s work. We are grateful to him for his incredible leadership for over 40 years.
John Morrison was more than just a scientist, though. Interestingly, John was ordained as an Episcopal priest before getting his doctorate in Epidemiology from the University of Cincinnati. He and his wife Patsy were married for 61 years and lived in Cincinnati almost all of that time. He was a huge fan of the basketball player Oscar Robinson, and enjoyed the arts in Cincinnati. John was very active in the community. In the 1980s he served as president of the Clifton Town Meeting and was instrumental in helping to save the Esquire Theater in Clifton from being torn down. He also co-founded the New School Montessori in Cincinnati. He enjoyed life to its fullest and was an active humanitarian and family man. He will be greatly missed.
